What was once a restaurant called Verpilate’s, is now a historic landmark on Hermosa Pier.  The Lighthouse Café first came about in 1940 and in 1949 started showcasing live Jazz music.  Bassist Howard Rumsey started Sunday jam sessions that drew in crowds and quickly became a popular spot among Jazz musicians.  The Lighthouse also served as a principle recording venue that hosted Miles Davis at one time.  Today, the Lighthouse Café is still rocking! Keeping up with the tradition, Sunday’s are still dedicated to live Jazz music from 11am-3pm.  You can enjoy live music every day of the week! They house great bands that range from country to reggae.  The Lighthouse Café also has a delicious menu and serves brunch on the weekends.  Be sure to check out Tuesday’s and learn to country line dance!
